Welcome to Trivia Tuesday! As the Rangers and Cardinals get ready to start the World Series on Wednesday, I wanted to pass along some fun World Series facts. Submit your own fun facts about baseball to the Forum and win some GoDough!

  • The first World Series was played between Pittsburgh and Boston in 1903. Back then, Boston’s nickname was the Pilgrims!
  • The Yankees have won 27 World Series, the most of any team by far. The St. Louis Cardinals have the second most, with 10.
  • Rollie Fingers has appeared in more World Series games than any other pitcher – 16 times with the A’s from 1972-1974
  • Former Yankee right fielder Mickey Mantle holds the record for most career home runs (18) and RBIs (40) in the World Series.
  • in 1919, members of the Chicago White Sox were banned from baseball for conspiring to “fix” their upcoming World Series against the Cincinnati Reds. (See? Cheating never pays!)
  • The All-Star game determines which league gets home field advantage in the Series. Before 2003, it was decided by who had the best regular season record.
